Oakland Program

How much does the program cost?

The Oakland program is only $300.

Why is the Oakland program so much cheaper than the Middle Eastern program?

We are able to provide the program at a fraction of the cost because one of the founding members is a Bay Area native, along with several of the instructors. As a result, the logistical costs are much lower.

Yes. There are a limited number of partial and full scholarships available for those with exceptional applications.

What is the format of the program?

The program is five days and is a mixture of dynamic lectures, games, and project-based teamwork. During the five-day program, you will learn to identify a problem worth solving, then create a business around solving that problem in a unique way. At the end of the program, you will have the opportunity to pitch the project in front of a panel of Venture Capitalist. Check the curriculum for more information.

Who will participate in this program?

Laney College and OUSD students will participate.

Each participant will create a money-making business within five days. However, the goal of the program is to teach you an Entrepreneurial Mindset when approaching problems wherever you find them in life.

Is it really possible to create a business in five days?

Yes! The Berkeley Method of Entrepreneurship (BMoE) has several success stories. We have seen a company created, and making money by day three of the program. Other companies have gone on to make hundreds of thousands of dollars, and a few have been bought by larger corporations. In fact – Startup With Purpose was born out of BMoE.

How is this program different from similar programs?

As a methodology created at UC Berkeley, and normally reserved for the academic elite of top universities like Cal, Stanford, and Cambridge, our program has a proven track record of creating successful entrepreneurs and business professionals.

Why is such an elite program being brought to high school and community college students?

A number of cofounders and instructors are from the bay area and have a heartfelt connection to both OUSD and Laney College and have worked hard to make this information available to students from their home.

Who are the instructors and mentors?

Participants will have a chance to learn and have one on one mentorship from a variety of professionals including executives from Fortune 500 companies, current and former professional athletes, local business leaders, and alumni from previous programs. Check Instructors and Mentors page for more information.
